My name is Kandi L. Dubuque and I live in Conover, NC. I am having a hard time finding a local pet shop that sells a high quality Butterfly Koi and Orandas. Many years ago my father, Ernie Dubuque owned Seaworld Pet Shop in Hickory, NC and we always got our fish from you guys. Well, I got very spoiled on the quality of my fish. I have been out of the business for several years but have a Koi pond and just getting fustrated with not being able to fine quality Koi. Hi All! I was given a goldfish at a wedding back in October…She is mostly orange and her tail comes to a V in back…Not sure what kind she is…I have her in the same vase I got her in…She seems to be doing well although after reading up I know I need to get her an aquarium! I change the vase water every other day or so…Is that bad? Should I only be doing PARTIAL water changes and would that be every day or once a week? Sometimes my fish Belle’s water is very clear and other times, it’s cloudy…Does the cloudy water mean there is ammonia in the water? Also, I thought of buying a gold fish that is mostly white with orange spots but it’s three inches long…Would that be a bad idea? Would a three and a half gallon tank be sufficient for either or both these fish? PLEASE SOMEONE ADVISE ME ON THESE QUESTIONS…Thanks!
Yes its a bad idea to have that many fish in such a small contained you need at least 5 gallons per fish so they can bloom. Also do get a bigger aquarium, if not it will harm the fish and just be overstressed due to the high ammonia and bacteria in your bowl.
you need much more then 5 gallons for a goldfish. The rule is (for fancy goldfish) 20 gallons for the first goldfish and 10 gallons for every next one. They can get around 8 to 6 inches. But for commons or comets ( the slim bodied type ) the rule is 50 gallons for the first fish and 40 gallons for every other goldfish. They can get over 1 foot long. BUT BIGGER IS BETTER. Dont listen to anyone who says they can live in a smaller place because they cant. What happens is that the goldfish stops growing from the outside but its organs keep growing which causes a lot of pain and then death. Goldfish can live for about 10 to 20 years with proper care.
I just lost my favorite goldfish. A red and white capped oranda named Bo Bo. And although no fish could ever replace him it has left a huge fish shaped hole in my heart not having him around. So I am looking for some red and white, or red capped orandas of decent quality that are hopefully affordable for me. I really don’t want to spend more than $100 total (including shipping). Can you help me out?
